We are seeing a rise of disordered eating across the globe, with bulimia, anorexia nervosa and compulsive overeating leading the charge. These common eating disorders are prevalent throughout all age groups and populations, and although the activities may appear harmless they can quickly escalate to life threatening. They can also act as a gateway for substance abuse.
SLO Recovery Centers offers a full-service stabilization treatment service for eating disorders. There is usually a host of medical support necessary to begin recovery from eating issues, which can be as severe as malnutrition, dehydration, diuretic and laxative dependence, and or course addressing damaging behaviours such as induced vomiting. We categorise this as a detox, especially if substance abuse also is an issue for the patient. Treatment plans will need to be individualised to best achieve stabilization for the patient, after which they will be fully able to participate in a program to help them through addressing the disorder.
This is, of course, the level of care necessary for those patients who need the extra support to buoy them through the early parts of recovery, where eating disorders can’t be contained without supervision. Of course, the ultimate goal is to regain freedom and a functional daily life. Once this stage is past, a Partial hospitalization program will address these issues
If you are already medically stable and have commenced your detox process, but still feel fragile [in an emotional sense and need full-time monitoring while you change your life, a Partial hospitalization program is the right stop for you. In-patient treatment includes:
Patients will progress from this 24/7 facility to a program of partial hospitalisation, where medication will be monitored, nutrition therapy will be continued and recreational activities monitored.
Recovery from eating disorders is more than possible, especially with help and guidance from a specialised facility that understands the unique challenges facing the patient.
